Red Cross Lifeguarding
Details:
The purpose of the American Red Cross course is to teach candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. To enroll in this course you must be at least 15 years old by the last class of the course. To participate in the course you must be able to swim 300 yards continuously and retrieve a 10 pound weight from 10 feet of water. |

UTC String Project: level 2 and 3: Mozart
Details:
The String Project at UTC provides an opportunity for school-aged children to learn a stringed instrument at a reasonable cost. Students receive private and group instruction on their chosen instrument from qualified music interns under the supervision of an experienced string music educator. Students in grades 3-12 may apply for admission to the program. If an orchestra exists at the student’s school, they must be enrolled in that group to participate in the String Project. UTC has a limited number of instruments available for rental. |

Beginning Digital Photography
Details:
This class is for the person who is new to the world of digital photography and would like to start at the beginning. We will cover how to immediately start taking great pictures with your camera, learn some digital photography vocabulary, and discover how to use your manual to find answers to your questions. We will go beyond using your camera in basic point and shoot mode, but not get into the more advanced camera controls and features (those will be covered in our Intermediate class). We will explore what you can do with your photos, such as printing, getting them onto your computer to share with family and friends, etc. We will also make sure that each person’s camera is set correctly for the type of photography they are interested in. Bring your camera, manual, charged battery, and a memory card to class. |

Burkett Miller Lecture Series Featuring Nobel Laureate Peter A. Diamond
Details:
Dr. Diamond will address the topic “Markets and Government.” Dr. Peter A. Diamond earned the Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T., is currently an Institute Professor at M.I.T., and known for his analysis of U.S. Social Security policy. Dr. Diamond received the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his “analysis of markets with search frictions” in which he “analyzed the foundations of search markets.” His model “helps to understand the ways in which unemployment, job vacancies, and wages are affected by regulation and economic policy.” Sponsored by the Scott L.
