Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People
Details:
If you yearn to experience the joy of playing piano, but don’t want years of weekly lessons, this short course is for you. In just one evening, you will learn enough secrets of the trade to make piano playing a part of your life -- learning chords, not notes. You’ll also get a healthy dose of insider secrets. This is a beginning class in chord piano techniques, and if you can find middle C and know the meaning of Every Good Boy Does Fine, you already know enough to enroll in this workshop. Other topics will include: how chords work, musicians’ “shortcuts,” speed reading sheet music, and deriving techniques of “counting.”

Jul 14

6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Lightroom Concepts
Details:
Lightroom is one of Adobe’s photo editing software products. This software has become very popular due to its relatively intuitive approach to photo editing while still being extremely powerful. In this class we will cover the basics of how to import your photos into Lightroom, how to organize your photos, and how to make straightforward changes to enhance your photos. We will also explore how to use Lightroom’s slide show programs to display your photos. (Lightroom’s print facility will not be covered in this class.) This class is appropriate for photographers who are considering purchasing Lightroom and would like to see what it can do as well as those who have purchased Lightroom and would like to learn about the workflow within Lightroom.

A Weekend Workshop in Proprioceptive Writing
Details:
This weekend workshop provides an introduction for those new to Proprioceptive Writing (PW) and serves as an opportunity for a piece of intensive, sustained work for those already familiar with the process. Widely recognized as an adjunct to the healing arts and as a form of meditation, PW is an invaluable tool for expression and reflection. If you can think it, you can write it, and when you write it, you increase your chances of really hearing yourself. This heightened awareness of your thinking allows you to gain perspective on your thoughts and feelings, to even “change your mind” around what previously seemed to be written in stone. You experience your mind in movement and come alive to yourself in new ways. Required text: Writing the Mind Alive, The Proprioceptive Method for Finding your Authentic Voice, Metcalf and Simon, (Ballantine, 2002). Anne Bright has taught Proprioceptive Writing for over fifteen years and still works closely with Drs. Metcalf and Simon, the originators of the process.
When: Friday-Sunday, July 15-17, 2011
Time: Friday, 5:00-8:00 pm
Saturday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sunday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Location: The Center for Contemplative Writing
Suite #210, 1401 Williams Street
Chattanooga, TN
