Beyond Journalism
Calendar: cal11
Posted by: Continuing Education
Details:
Learn to use writing as a way to access inner thoughts, explore them with impassioned curiosity, and set them free. Through the simple and pleasurable practice of Proprioceptive Writing® (PW), you will learn to use writing as a tool for deep thinking. Everyone thinks, but many thoughts dwell below the surface of expression. When you “hear yourself think” by slowing down the expression of thought through writing, thoughts evolve. Personal intelligence expands. You become more knowing, more useful to yourself. Deep thinking through PW is a creative way to come face-to-face with the thoughts that influence your life profoundly. Like prayer, deep thinking demands openness and undivided attention; it requires the different facets of the mind to work together as a whole, producing a healthful, life-affirming attitude and a sense of greater mental space.

Patten Performances Present: The Secret Sisters
Calendar: cal4
Posted by: Robert Boyer
Details:
The Secret Sisters’ incredible story is as simple and true as the effortless harmonies that have garnered them all the attention from the Hunger Games soundtrack and are bringing them to the UTC Fine Arts Center to open the Patten season this year.

It was the sisters’ - Laura and Lydia Rogers - vocals and their love and respect for music and harmony that first caught the attention of T Bone Burnett, who signed on as Executive Producer. As Burnett explains, “I’ve been making music for over forty years and The Secret Sisters are as close to pure as it gets. Listening to them sing, you hear a sound that is timeless and of the moment. You hear the history of rural American music from the 1920’s and a reverence for every musical genre this country has produced.”

Join us for this evening of some of the finest talent we’ve ever featured!
