2015 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2015 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative. In the coming months, DHS expects to place approximately 75 undergraduate student volunteers in cybersecurity-focused assignments at more than 50 locations across the country.

As part of the department’s ongoing efforts to develop the next generation of cyber talent, selected students will have a unique opportunity learn about the DHS cybersecurity mission and to engage in hands-on cybersecurity work related to digital forensics, network diagnostics, incident response and a variety of other specialties.

Applications are accepted until January 23, 2015 via Student volunteer assignments will begin in May 2015 and continue throughout the summer.

“Project Lead the Way” On Campus Volunteer opportunity

The nonprofit nationwide program call "Project Lead the Way"(PLTW) is looking for volunteers to help make contacts and set up meetings across the state.  PLTW provides hands on training K through 12 in Engineering, Computer Science and Biomedical studies. PLTW not only has the courses, but also trains teachers to teach the programs to achieve the maximum benefit for students.  The program was founded in 1997 in upstate NY and is now a national program producing excellent results.  Volunteers will  have an opportunity to network with non-profit organizations, businesses (State Leadership Team) and school systems across the state.

Unpaid Business Development Intern for an online Monogram Shop

Monogrammed is currently seeking an unpaid Business Development intern for a monogramming and personalization shop. The right candidate will be exposed to all aspects of our company from learning how to operate our website, helping in the shop, working with social media and SEO as well as learning about our shipping department. You will work with social media via Instagram, Twitter, Face Book, Pinterest and various other social media apps. This is a great opportunity for you to learn how our whole business operates. Our shop offers a fun and casual atmosphere and we are located minutes from campus.

Unpaid Internship with Stuffing Strut

Stuffing Strut, Inc. is a new non-profit that has been established to raise funds through a 5K walk/run on Thanksgiving morning at Chester Frost Park to help the families/agencies of North Hamilton County.

We are in need of an intern that can help update and maintain our website with creative ideas. It is considered an unpaid, part time position. We have a website already established, it just has to be maintained and updated. It is not an everyday or possibly even an every week job. We are in the process now of updating and changing the forms, possibly some of the look at intern's discretion. We need someone creative and able to stay on top of ideas and items.

Unpaid Internship at the Jump Park

Looking for a Physical Education or Physical Fitness Major for an internship at The Jump Park.

We need them to put together a fitness program such as but not limited to a Mommy and Me Class or Family Fitness Class for all age groups.

This would be an unpaid internship but you would get free admission to the Jump Park at anytime for the duration of the internship.

The class must be an hour long and run two to three times per week. This program will run March thru the beginning of April.

PR/Marketing Internship (UNPAID) - Salon Eaj

This internship is available for students pursuing a business, marketing, or related degree. Our Marketing Coordinator is looking for students to assist with promotion, marketing, and coordination of events as we move to our new location. The schedule is framed around the school schedule of the student and email/phone communication is an option in some cases. Students should expect to work 10-15 hours a week (including telephone/email contact).

This unpaid internship will provide real world marketing experience to students looking to expand their "field" experience, while also allowing students to be creative and hands-on in the entire marketing/campaigning process.

Our​ purpose for reaching out to college students is to give them an opportunity to gain experience and produce a quality product that they can use for their resume and/or portfolio.

For this reason, we would prefer ​a senior student in the business and communications majors.​

his student would need to be able to ​film, edit, and publish an instructional video for the chairs we sell​. The video must be ​professional quality​.

​The intern would need access to their own filming equipment along with computer and editing software.

Children’s Ministry Internship – Hixson United Methodist Church

Hixson UMC Children’s Ministry is offering a Children’s Ministry Intern position for the 2014-2015 school year. The Southeastern Climbers Coalition is looking for an intern to help implement a large, branded fundraiser in November, 2014. 

  • Assist the Executive Director in planning and implementing 1 large-scale fundraiser and help with approximately 5 small-scale fundraisers for Fall 2014.

Internship #2 - Create Land Management Plans (LMP) for the SCC owned areas

Under direct supervision of the Executive Director, the SCC is looking for an intern to help create management plans for each climbing area that the SCC owns. Each intern will be responsible for creating a management plan for 1-2 areas around the Southeast and will be given guidance and materials to gain an understanding of how the LMP should be structured.  LMP’s will contain information related to:

  • Builds cooperative relationships between climbers and resource managers.
  • Includes area history, location, objectives, rules and regulations
  • Provides information about status and contextual importance of resource values, climbing activity and Provides information about contextual use patterns, and effects of climbing activity on identified resource values.
  • Articulates climbing as a recreational experience, and describe the variety of climbing opportunities as values.
  • Identifies management alternatives that address climbing impacts in a manner that is consistent with management approach to other recreation groups.
  • Includes First Responder/First Aid information

Internship #3 - Plan and Implement Trail Days

Under direct supervision of the Executive Director, the SCC is looking for an intern to help plan and implement up to 3 trail days during the semester.  The intern will be responsible for the tasks listed below, as well as attending and managing the actual trail days. 

  • Help coordinate one trail days per month for Spring 2015
  • Site visits to determine what work is needed at each area
  • Coordinate volunteers and equipment needed
  • Help promote trail days through social media and website

Organization: The Crash Pad: An Uncommon Hostel

Our mission is to further establish Chattanooga as an ultimate outdoor destination by providing a base camp and community hub for adventurous travelers. This has led us to our dream of opening an uncommon hostel in the heart of downtown, combining the affordability and camaraderie of a traditional hostel with the charm and cleanliness of a boutique hotel.

While The Crash Pad welcomes all travelers, we’ve taken special care to maximize the experience of those who come to play in the mountains and rivers that surround our city. New construction ensures the highest standards of craftsmanship and energy efficiency. As outdoor adventurers, we pursued construction and operation techniques built on reclaimed and renewable resources in order to minimize our impact on the environment.

Candidates should be acquiring a college degree in Communications, Hospitality, Marketing or Environmental Sustainability. This is an unpaid internship, however is available for school credit.

The major responsibility of the intern will work with Crash Pad staff to create a project for the duration of the semester. We want this project to reflect your passion and expertise in a way that improves the business, building or guest experience. Other learning opportunities include: daily hostel management, laundry, guest interaction, monthly attendance of weekly Friday management meeting and other duties.

Duration: A weekday (we will work to fit your schedule) from 9:00-5:00, Fall Semester 2014. This internship does not necessarily entitle the intern to a paid position after completion.

UNPAID - Ministry Relations Intern - J103-Partners for Christian Media Inc.

Reports to: Ministry Relations Director

Hours: Flexible between 8am and 5pm; 10 to 15 hours per week

Position Description: Provides assistance to the Ministry Relations Department (MRD), which purpose is to connect with local churches and non-profits and assist them in increasing their awareness with the community.

General Requirements:

  • Help with planning and executing of J103 events, mainly the Pastor Appreciation Breakfast
  • Updating church listing database
  • Stay up to date with events and trends in radio and ministry to ensure that Ministry Relations stays stays viable and pertinent.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating content for social media pages
  • Writing of letters & designing ads for web or print
  • Assist Ministry Relations Coordinator in providing content for “The Light” magazine
  • Making & receiving phone calls concerning Ministry Relations related projects
  • Maintain relevant databases on existing churches, ministries, schools, faith-based events, and other faith-based initiatives and organizations active in the listening region.
  • Other duties may include assisting in other areas of J103 as needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong Christian witness in both deed and word
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Possess good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail
  • Would be exceptional if candidate had knowledge of Adobe Publisher, InDesign and/or Photoshop.

UNPAID Operations Internship - Tennessee Stillhouse, Home of Chattanooga Whiskey

We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated, self-starter, organized, and willing to learn new things. We believe this is a great opportunity for a student in the business, administration, and management track looking to build their resume and gain experience in a fast paced, start-up community. As part of Lamp Post Group, this individual will also be exposed to other start-ups and numerous activities and learning opportunities that Lamp Post Group offers on a daily basis, including yoga, seminars, and group socials.

A Tabor Talent intern will be responsible for the marketing and managing aspects of Tabor Talent. The marketing aspects will include creating graphics, promotional items, and marketing to local businesses and schools. They'll be responsible for developing a marketing plan to follow during their time as an intern. They'll be an admin on social media pages and determine the importance of posts online. They'll be responsible for managing the audition process as well, including paperwork, equipment knowledge, and studio set up.

By getting a wide variety of experience, the intern can get a better idea of what part of the industry they want to pursue. Having familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite would be preferred but not required. The intern could assist in any of the various services that Tabor offers. These services include: video production, website production and design, graphic design, research and data analysis, copywriting, and Tabor Talent. Each of these services have a variety of opportunities for an intern to gain experience. If an intern shows an interest in one area over another, we would be happy to have them focus on one area. Music Internship, Redemption Point Church

This unpaid internship is available for students interested in real-world experience in high-level music ministry and performance at a growing, vibrant church. Redemption Point Church has two campuses in which students can expect to serve: Chattanooga (1907 Bailey Ave) and Ooltewah (3831 Ooltewah-Ringgold Rd).

Students will serve under the campus ministers of music, and will be involved in the performance, arrangement, production and administration of sacred/gospel music for church services and special events.

Students can expect 10-15 weekly hours of involvement (including Sunday and midweek services and rehearsals, and office hours and special events as needed/available).

This unpaid internship is available for students interested in real-world experience in high-level media creation and execution at a growing, vibrant church. Redemption Point Church has two campuses in which students can expect to serve: Chattanooga (1907 Bailey Ave) and Ooltewah (3831 Ooltewah-Ringgold Rd).

UNPAID INTERNSHIPS - Redpepper Ad Agency: Nashville

As a Redpepper intern, you’ll contribute firsthand to something we hold as the highest importance – our culture. Account Management:

We’re looking for ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT INTERNS who take “business-minded” to a new level. They’re excellent communicators with both left- and right-brainers. They’re highly creative problem solvers while being meticulous about details. And they get an adrenaline rush from hearing the word “spreadsheet.” 

Social Media:

We’re looking for SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNS who live, eat, and breathe Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp, Google+, and more. They’re testing the merits of the latest platforms before anyone else has heard of them, and they can use Hootsuite blindfolded. They’re thrilled to optimize content for any outlet, and jump at the chance to dive into analytics.

Assistive Technology Volunteer - Signal Centers

Assistive Technology needs individuals who are mechanically or technically inclined.  Volunteers will be able to accompany specialists in their technology assessments.  Volunteers are also needed to call clients for follow-up on equipment use, returns, etc. This opportunity is a great way to serve and gain experience with clients, computers, electronics, programming, soldering, and more!

Employment Services Volunteer - Signal Centers

Employment Services Volunteers will serve as job coaches and job developers, as well as assist the Employment Specialist. Volunteers will also have the chance for hands on learning by accompanying the Employment Specialist to meetings with potential employers, job coaching with clients, and participating in mock interviews. This opportunity is a great way to get experience working with individuals and veterans with disabilities!

Homework Helpers - Girls Inc. of Chattanooga is in need of homework helpers for the Bookworm Club program and would love to the community get involved. The program is Monday and Tuesday at Woodmore Elementary School in Brainerd and Wednesday and Thursday at East Ridge Elementary School.  We need homework helpers from 4-5 p.m. and general volunteers 3-4 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.  Volunteers should contact Katherine Walker at 423-624-4757.    A minimum commitment of 20 hours is required.



Erlanger Hospital - In our newly launched Service and Learning College Volunteer Program, college students will be able to get hands-on experience in our real-life classrooms here at Erlanger Hospital.  With volunteer opportunities available in both clinical and non-clinical areas, students of all backgrounds and fields of study—from Nursing, Pre-Med, and Allied Health to Accounting, Legal studies, and Business Administration—will gain valuable skills and insights from behind the scenes.  If you are currently enrolled in college and would like to participate in this new program, please click here to view jobs and to apply.
