The Office of Multicultural Affairs, which facilitates the City Internship Program, is recruiting participants for the fall semester. The goal of the program is to open up more opportunities, get people excited about working for Chattanooga and to retain Chattanooga's best and brightest young adults. Interns work in various departments in City of Chattanooga Government.

What does the City Internship entail?

The City Program hosts up to 20 interns each semester in departments from public works, to public art, to communications, to family justice.

  • Interns must be college juniors, seniors or recent graduates. Age does not matter.
  • Interns must commit to working 15 hours a week.
  • Interns are paid $500 a month.
  • Interns must be available to work between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30, Monday - Friday. Schedules during the work hours are flexible. Interns will coordinate their schedules with their Department Head/Supervisor.
  • Interns MUST be available on Fridays from 1:00 - 3:00 for mandatory professional development and community service activities.

7/28/15..........Gift Shop Assistant Manager - Erlanger Auxiliary

Auxiliary Mission

The Erlanger Auxiliary is the only volunteer group dedicated solely to Erlanger Health System, sharing over 100,000 hours with the community.  Volunteers raise money through the Auxiliary Gift Shop, uniform sales, newborn baby photos and special sales, with all proceeds benefiting Erlanger’s mission.


This is a part-time position (approx 20 hours/week), and will be responsible for the operation of the Erlanger Auxiliary Gift Shop when the Manager is away.  This position will support afternoon, evening and weekend hours of operation.  This is an hourly position without benefits.

This position reports to the Erlanger Auxiliary. The Gift Shop Assistant Manager will not be an employee of Erlanger Health System.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete cash register close-out, and prepare nightly bank deposit for night depository.
  • Maintain daily sales records and reports, including payroll deduction spreadsheets.
  • Receive product shipments and follow policies and procedures for entering it in to inventory.
  • Help keep the Gift Shop neat and clean.
  • Provide deliveries to patient rooms when needed.
  • Provide emergency staffing, if needed.
  • Promote customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to operate a computerized cash register.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of basic fiscal and personnel management principles.
  • Needs people management skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Program Director in planning, coordinating and implementing programs for area children and youth. Supervise children as instructed by Program Director.

  • Set up and then clean up daily educational, craft and recreational activities.
  • Assist with Northside Neighborhood House operations as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.

There is also an opportunity to edit your own videos and photos that will be used by FAMED and our direct involvement with big time athletes such as Tennessee’s Todd Kelly Jr. and current high school stars Rashun Freeman and Ryan Parker.

Duties include moving furniture, transporting waste/linen, utilizing floor machines, and cleaning floors, furniture, walls, ceilings, bathrooms, etc.
