Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations

The System Engineering Department provides pre-sale and post-sale engineering support for Government & Public Safety Communications Systems projects.

Assist Lead Engineers with pre-sale and post-sale technical support on two-way radio and other communications product applications for the Southeastern U.S. Public Safety Customer accounts. Work with and assist a team including Sales, System Integrators, Product Engineers, Program Managers and Senior Systems Engineers to implement wireless communication solutions for voice, data and integrated infrastructure systems. Responsibilities will involve assisting other Systems Engineers with conducting customer needs assessments and analysis, performing RF coverage and interference predictions, designing equipment layouts and antenna configurations, determining RF Link budgets and Telco requirements, performing coverage and operational testing.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

  • The Intern will work in a field Systems Engineering group, which is a field team supporting the sales and implementation of Motorola wireless communications systems to state and local Public Safety agencies. You are expected to learn the fundamental system concepts, architectures, design issues, performance criteria, infrastructure requirements, applications, and device types associated with Motorola wireless communication systems. You will be given opportunities to get hands-on experience with installed systems to increase your learning. Customer meetings, presentations, and light travel may be required.
  • The Intern will work closely with various teams, including Engineering, Sales, Project Management, and System Technologist in providing customer solutions for various communications systems. Provide written documents to support the wireless systems including coverage maps, site drawings, system description, and rack drawings.
  • The Intern will be enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree program in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial/Systems Engineering, Computer Science program, or Wireless Engineering.
