The Sugar Mocs dance team performs at football halftimes, basketball timeouts and halftimes, and other special events, on and off campus, during the academic year at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Sugar Mocs are organized under the Office of Student Development. The team is directed and supervised by a staff member who serves as its coach. To request an appearance by Scrappy or the Sugar Mocs, complete the Appearance Request Form.
In addition to performing at approximately 24 regularly scheduled football and men's and women's home basketball games, the dance team is well known for its outstanding performances at the Southern Conference Basketball tournament and the NCAA tournament.
The UTC Sugar Mocs dance team competed in a Universal Dance Association College Spirit Camp held in Knoxville in 2005 and came away with three trophies.
Former Sugar Mocs Leslie Wilson and Candice Smiley choreographed the Sugar Mocs home routine, which placed third behind Louisiana Tech and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The Sugar Mocs also took home a 110 percent trophy and a superior trophy for overall performance on all their dances during the two-day camp.
In 1998 the Sugar Mocs placed fifth in its first UDA National competition and were featured on ESPN. They have annually qualified to attend the championship, and earned fourth place finish in the 2000 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship Open Division.
The team members strive for excellence on the dance floor, in the classroom and in the community.
