The Center for Academic and Innovative Technologies exists to provide a bridge between academic departments and UT Chattanooga's Information Technology division. By facilitating communication, performing system administration, providing guidance in technological matters, and offering specialized project hosting, CAIT helps faculty, students, and outside agencies achieve their educational and research goals.
While UT Chattanooga does not have an official "Research and Development" department, CAIT (and its prior incarnations) often provides "R&D" for IT-related projects. Many of the information technologies in use at UT Chattanooga were first tested and implemented by CAIT personnel. Some examples are content media services, wireless access, directory structures, third party patch management, and Geographic Information Systems.
