The email system and UTCID
Every student, staff and faculty member at UTC now has an email address
which is something like "Billy-Bones@utc.edu". These addresses replace
the earlier ones, which took a number of different forms.
Everyone also has a UTCID, which looks something
like "abc123", and is used for logging into various facilities,
including OneNet and Blackboard.
To find your email address, UTCID and to set your
password:
- Go to http://onenet.utc.edu
- Click on "Forgot Password"
- Enter your Social Security Number (without
dashes) twice - once in "UTC ID", and again
in "Social Security #"
- Enter your birthdate and click on "Get Password"
- If you have given the system a "security
question" you must then answer it
- This will give you your UTCID and will allow you
to set a new email password
Getting UTC email using OneNet
To access your email you will need three
things:
- Either your UTCID or your email name.
- Your email password, which looks something like
"xyz1234". (This is not the same password
that you use for Blackboard.)
If you don't know either
or these, follow the instructions given above
- A computer which allows the browser to generate
pop-up windows.
To check whether pop-ups are
allowed, click here:
If no pop-up window appears, you cannot read your email on this
computer.
Once all three of these requirements are in
place, log on to http://onenet.utc.edu
and take it from there.
Getting UTC email using POP3
If you use Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Communicator, or any
other email program to retrieve UTC email, the Mail Server (incoming)
needs to be set to "pop.utc.edu".
Redirecting UTC email
Email which is sent to a UTC email address can be redirected to any
other email address (e.g. AOL, hotmail, etc.)
Here is how to do it:
- Get into your OneNet account (see above) and click on "E-Mail" at
the top of the screen.
- At the top of the window are two icons. Click on the right hand
one (which has two red checkmarks).
- A window labeled "Options - General Settings" should open.
- Click on "Mail Box Management" near the top of the screen.
- Look in "Forward all new messages".
- The first yes/no button should be set to "Yes".
- The second (Keep Copy) should be set to "No".
- The email address to which you want emails forwarded should be
typed (carefully!!) in the "Forward to:" box.
- If you want, you can use the next section to append a "signature"
to outgoing messages sent using NetMail.
- Click on "Save" and close the window - that's it!
