Phillip: The entire campus community is invited when Chancellor Roger Brown delivers a State of the University address at a campus convocation on Tuesday, October 3, 12:15 p.m. in the University Center auditorium.

“I was very honored when the campus community attended my installation convocation speech,” said Chancellor Roger Brown.  “At that time several initiatives and objectives were introduced.  The time is appropriate to share again with the campus the achievements and progress that have been made since that time.”

Along with these updates, Chancellor Brown will discuss the upcoming strategic planning process and the University’s budget.

A reception will follow in the UC lobby.

With just over a month left before the general election, Democrat Harold Ford Jr. holds a thin lead over Republican nominee Bob Corker in the U.S. Senate race. Both Ford and Corker are scheduled to have a debate on UTC campus next Tuesday Oct. 10 at 7:30pm. To accommodate distribution of a limited number of tickets available to the Ford/Corker debate, the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Development invites UTC students to enter an essay contest.  There will be 41 Ford/Corker debate tickets awarded to UTC students who submit a two-four page essay. All essays must be turned in on Friday, October 6, by noon to Linda Gehron in Room 306 University Center.  No essays will be accepted after noon.

And also in campus news, homecoming week is finally here! Today are field games are from 2 to 5 at the SGA student park, and Thursday at 12:15 is the pep rally at UTC place and the Delta Sigma Theta Step down at 7:30, on Friday is the golf cart parade and on Saturday is the big game, kickoff starts at 6:00 and tailgating starts at 3. Come out and participate in all of the exciting events! Last night was the Lip singing contest here is _____with more.

The Lady Mocs soccer team out shot Georgia Southern 16-11 Sunday afternoon, but fell 1-0 in a Southern Conference match up at the North River Soccer Complex. Stacy Matthiessen, who is ranked sixth in the nation with 8.56 saves per game, made three stops on the day. The Lady Mocs will travel to UNC Greensboro for a Friday night match up against the Spartans before returning home to host Elon on Sunday, Oct. 8.

Junior Leslee Ball led the attack for the Lady Mocs Volleyball team with 18 kills as the team kept its winning streak alive with a win over Georgia Southern Saturday evening.
The win boosts Chattanooga’s record to 6-9 overall, 4-1 conference.

The Citadel Bulldogs defeated the Mocs 24-21 Saturday in a Southern Conference game. . Quarterback Matt Lopez hit wideout Michael Johnson on a 24-yard scoring pass and Esteban Lopez’s extra point got the Mocs to within 24-21. The Mocs will host defending National Champion Appalachian State Saturday at 6 p.m. at Finley Stadium

The man who killed five Amish schoolgirls and himself on Monday told his wife he had molested several young relatives when he was 12 years old, and "had dreams" of molesting again. Investigators talked to relatives and analyzed suicide notes as they tried to determine what made Roberts barricade himself inside the tiny Amish school, tying up girls and shooting them -- five fatally -- before killing himself Monday.
