Hello and welcome to this edition of Mocs News. I’m Emily Edwards and I’m Lorenzo Kirk.
TAKE OTS --- CAMPUS NEWS
OZ: In campus news, The UTC Department of Art’s 2006 Annual Juried Student Exhibition will be available for viewing at the Cress Gallery of Art through January 26. Selections from over 100 submissions for this exhibition are being shown to highlight work created by students enrolled in the studio classes of the UTC Art Department. Included in the exhibit are both two dimensional and three dimensional works of art and designs from all levels of the curriculum including the Foundation, Painting and Drawing, 3-D Studio, and Graphic Design Programs, as well as watercolor, printmaking and photography courses.
EMILY : Are you considering graduate school in the near future? UTC’s graduate school is hosting a seminar for undergrads and community members who are interested in pursuing a graduate education. The seminar topics will include how to find the right graduate school, sources of funding for graduate students and strategies for success. The seminar will be held in the Lookout Mountain room of UTC’s university center on Wednesday, January 25 th from 2-4 p.m. There’s no excuse not to check it out if you’re interested because it’s free of charge!
OZ: ----TAKE OTS--- UTC students are invited to submit designs for a student monument to be located in the new green space opposite the University Center, between the UC and the old football field. The UTC Student Government Association is sponsoring the Student Monument Design Contest. The winner of the Student Monument Design Contest will receive a $500 cash prize, a plaque, and recognition on the monument itself. Fabrication costs, weather resistance, and appropriateness will all be factors in determining a winning design. The student body will judge and decide the winning design. And the deadline has been extended. All submissions are due no later than Friday, February 3th.

Thursday January 26th There will be a Free and Confidential HIV Testing at the UTC Health Clinic. No needles involved. This is in collaboration with the clinic and AIDS Outreach. Take advantage of this free test especially if you sexually active with several partners. And remember to practice safe sex, condoms are also available for free in the UTC Health Clinic.

DAVID: THERE HAS BEEN A DESPERATE RACE TO SAVE PEOPLE TRAPPED IN THE RUBBLE OF A COLLAPSED BUILDING IN KENYA. THERE ARE REPORTS OF DEATHS BUT NO NUMBERS YET. HOSPITAL SOURCES SAY AT LEAST 60 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED. RESCUERS ARE DIGGING THROUGH THE RUBBLE, LOOKING FOR SURVIVORS. THE LOWER FLOORS OF THE FIVE-STORY BUILDING WERE FILLED WITH CONSTRUCTION WORKERS... MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE WERE INSIDE. MORE FLOORS WERE BEING ADDED TO THE BUILDING WHEN IT COLLAPSED.
National ---TAKE OTS--- DAVID: FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE MAJOR JOB CUTS MONDAY.AMERICA'S SECOND-LARGEST AUTO-MAKER HAS BEEN HURT BY FALLING SALES OF CARS AND SPORT-UTILITY-VEHICLES. COMPANY OFFICIALS ADMIT THE CHANGES BEING PLANNED WILL BE PAINFUL. THE RESTRUCTURING PROGRAM IS BEING CALLED "WAY FORWARD."IT WILL INCLUDE PRODUCT CHANGES AND ALSO CUTS TO FORD'S SALARIED RANKS.
