Freshman Connections

You Can Go Anywhere from Here!!!

The Freshman Connections program continues a process that begins with orientation sessions in the spring and summer. Professors from various academic departments across campus collaborate with the student support staff to create an environment in which students meet these challenges as part of a learning community.

Connections cohorts are organized around a theme or academic area. So, in addition to taking classes in common with a small group of fellow students, in a FC cohort you can satisfy degree requirements, discover connections between your academic and social experiences, and develop a sense of community among fellow students.

There are many benefits to participation in the Freshman Connections program:

  • It makes the registration process a lot easier; you can register for most or all of your classes at once.
  • Take classes with the same 20 students, so even a lecture class will seem small.
  • Take courses that also fulfill general education requirements.
  • Meet students with similar academic interests.
  • Form your own small UTC community.
  • Live together in a Living/Learning Environment with ResConnections.

Cohort Learning
Freshman Connection cohorts are groups of up to 20 students freshmen that interact throughout the semester. Each cohort is led by a team of instructors including the faculty in the cohort courses, the Freshman Seminar instructors, and a peer mentor. This team will lead classroom and out of class activities.

By engaging in common group activities and sharing common experiences, students achieve greater success in making the transition from high school to UTC.
