Monitoring Developmental Studies

The professional staff members in the Retention and Advisement Center consistently monitor the progress of students enrolled in the Developmental Studies programs.

The Developmental Studies program is designed to provide academic courses and support for the students who lack certain college-level academic preparedness.

  • Students may have received either regular or conditional admission.
  • Student participation in developmental studies is determined by placement examinations and/or ACT/SAT scores.
  • Required developmental studies courses must be completed within the student's first 42 attempted semester hours for freshmen and the first 30 attempted semester hours for transfers.
  • All students registered for these courses will be identified as developmental studies students.
  • Institutional credit will be assigned to all developmental courses. This credit will be in addition to all degree requirements. It will not apply to the hours required for graduation, either major requirements, general education requirements, or elective hours. Neither will it be counted in the grade point average for graduation or honors.
