Faculty
Dr. Joseph M. Kizza received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1989 with a concentration in Combinatorics and Analysis and Design of Algorithms. He joined the Department of Computer Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1989 and he is currently a professor. He is an internationally known speaker on social computing and information security and assurance. He has published extensively in journals and conference proceedings and authored seven books on computer ethics, network security and cyberethics. Some of these books have been translated into several languages. He is a member of ACM and IEEE and a UNESCO expert in Information Technology.
Dr. Andy Novobilski received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2000 with an emphasis on data-mining of Bayesian Networks for use in forecasting applications. He joined the faculty of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as an Associate Professor in 2000 and was promoted to Department Head in 2003. He also holds adjunct appointments with the UT College of Medicine Erlanger Unit and the UTC Computational Engineering program with an active research program in data mining and medical informatics. In addition to his terminal degree, Dr. Novobilski has over 25 years experience in industry, including working with Tandy Research and Development in the mid-80s on projects related to the early development of Windows. He also served as principal and president of NovoTech, Inc., a small consulting company that focused on advanced development applications for clients such as Gateway 2000, IBM, AT&T, and others.
Dr. Li Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She received her Ph.D. from Florida International University and joined the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2005. Her research interests include network and information security, databases, and engineering techniques for complex software system design. She actively involves students into her research. She has authored papers on these areas in refereed journals, conferences and symposiums. She is a member of the ACM. Currently her teaching interests are in Information Security and Computer Networks.
Ms. Katherine Winters is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She received a M.S. in Engineering Management and Computer Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She joined the faculty in 1999. Prior to that, she worked for 20 years in industry involved in environmental quality data analysis and project management. Her research interests include security in software engineering and integration of security throughout the computer science curriculum. She has authored papers on these areas in refereed journals, conferences and symposiums. She is a member of the ACM and Upsilon Pi Epsilon. Currently her teaching interests are in Information Security and Computer Literacy.
Dr. Beni Asllani an Associate Professor of Management at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He got his Ph.D from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He has published extensively. He is a W. Max Finley Centennial Scholar and holds membership in the National Decision Science Institute, Allied Academies , and the Strategic Electronic Commerce.
Dr. Michael Ward is one of two Acting Security Officers for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also serves as adjunct faculty for the Department of Computer Science of UT Chattanooga. He received his Ed. D. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has worked at the UTC since 1994 in a variety of capacities ranging from Network Installer to Novell Administrator. His research interests include penetration testing and operating system hardening. He is also a Red Hat Certified Engineer.
