The CASR is staffed year-round with a Director and Senior Research Associate.
Barbara C. Medley, Ph. D.
Director
Dr. Medley has served as the Director of the CASR since 2000. She is an Associate Professor of Sociology at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She holds a Master of Science in Urban Administration, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Georgia State University. Dr. Medley’s research experience includes studies of welfare reform, youth and families, child development, business and community development, and various attitudinal surveys. She is trained in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and ensures a quality research product from study development to the final report.

Marclyn D. Porter, Doctoral Candidate

Senior Research Associate
Ms. Porter joined the CASR in January, 2011. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Vanderbilt University, her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and is in the final stages of her dissertation at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the Learning and Leadership Doctoral Program. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at UTC since 2009, teaching in both the School of Education and College of Arts and Sciences (SAG Dept.) In addition to the research work conducted at the CASR, Ms. Porter’s research focuses on education initiatives, teacher development and teacher effectiveness. She specializes in qualitative methodologies, interview and focus group methodologies, program evaluation, needs assessment research, and survey development.
