CASR RESEARCH-A BRIEF HISTORY

Across the 14 years of its operation (1998-2011), the CASR has completed 70 research projects (14 studies across multiple years), producing 114 reports/products, generating $542,718 in project funding. The number of studies, reports/products, and funding has varied across the years, with a general increase from 1998 to 2011.

The Center began in 1998 with Dr. Fraser and his team completing three research projects and reports. In 1999, the team completed two more projects and reports. Additionally, the Center began work on the U.S. Forestry Study.

Dr. Medley began her term in 2000, and with her team of students conducted 34 studies, producing 57 reports/products through 2006. The first four years (2000-2003) were dominated by the U.S. Forestry Study. With the wrap-up of the U.S. Forestry grant, additional studies were acquired.

By 2007, it was evident that additional professional staff was needed to help coordinate and conduct the large volume of projects coming into the Center. To meet this need, Dr. Ritz was hired as part-time Research Coordinator. Over the next two years, Drs. Medley and Ritz wrapped up a five-year project for the City of Chattanooga, completed with other UTC faculty five research projects for UTC’s Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC), acquired two three-year non-profit program evaluation projects, completed five projects for UTC departments/units, and began data collection on the UTC Faculty/Staff Worklife and Diversity Study and UTC Student Retention and Diversity Study. In all, 15 projects, 18 reports/products, were generated from 2007-2008.

In 2009, Dr. Ritz became full-time Research Coordinator, increasing capacity to conduct more large projects concurrently. Drs. Medley and Ritz and a team of students, conducted 24 studies and produced 36 products and/or reports, from 2009-2011.

In 2011, Ms. Porter joined the CASR staff as a graduate research assistant. In 2012, Ms. Porter continues her work with the CASR as a Research Associate.

A listing of the research studies, needs assessments, program evaluations, and survey data collection and coding projects completed by the CASR from 1998 to the present, is provided below. Projects which were multi-year studies are listed in each year that the project was conducted.
