Program Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for Upward Bound, students must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in the ninth, tenth or eleventh grade at either Brainerd High, East Ridge High or Howard School of Academics and Technology.
- A member of a family whose income does not exceed the level established annually by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Recommended in writing by high school counselors or other school officials.
- A potential first-generation college student--neither parent completed a four-year, post-secondary institution.
To become a member of Upward Bound, students must complete an application for membership, which may be obtained from their school's (Brainerd, Howard and East Ridge) guidance office.
Students are not accepted until they have turned in a completed application, two letters of recommendation, a copy of their parents’ most recent income tax papers, a copy of their most recent report card, and any other documentation requested by Upward Bound administration.
