The Georgescu-Roegen Prize

The Georgescu-Roegen Prize is awarded each year by the Southern Economic Association for the best academic article published in the Southern Economic Journal. The prize consists of an engraved plaque and a monetary award, the amount of which is determined by a set portion of the earnings on the Georgescu-Roegen endowment. Recipients of the prize are chosen by a selection committee consisting of the Editor of the Southern Economic Journal, and two Vice Presidents of the Southern Economic Association.

The selection committee awarded two Georgescu-Roegen Prizes in 2008. The winners are:

  • Brett Katzman (Kennesaw State University)
  • Kerry Anne McGeary (Drexel University)

Brett Katzman and Kerry Anne McGeary were awarded the 2008 Georgescu-Roegen Prize for their article titled, “Will Competitive Bidding Decrease Medicare Prices?” published in volume 74 of the Southern Economic Journal (SEJ, volume 74, number 3, January 2007).

  • Brian Duncan (University of Colorado at Denver)
  • Laura Argys (University of Colorado at Denver)

Brian Duncan and Laura Argys were awarded the 2008 Georgescu-Roegen Prize for their article titled, “Economic Incentives and Foster Care Placement” published in volume 74 of the Southern Economic Journal (SEJ, volume 74, number 1, July 2007).
