Jefferson Parish Schools
The Jefferson Parish Schools Office of Innovative Programs has partnered with the Southeast Center for Education in the Arts to provide provide professional development in arts integration for the faculties of two arts-based elementary schools, John Clancy Elementary and Lincoln Elementary.

SCEA Directors of Dance, Theatre, Visual Art, and Music Education will travel to New Orleans and present a weeklong intensive workshop in June 2008. During the 2008-09 school year, SCEA and the Jefferson Parish Schools will work together to begin implementation of a comprehensive, site-specific approach to professional development to fully train faculty members and strengthen their work in arts integration. Over three years, faculty members will gain expertise in arts education and integration through participation in workshops, mentoring activities, and art-form based cohort groups.
Among the many school-reform initiatives taking hold in post-Katrina New Orleans, arts integration provides a unique vehicle for educating a diverse community of learners through active engagement, creative problem solving, and multiple intelligences. SCEA is pleased to be invited to contribute to the rebuilding of the New Orleans school community through our work in arts integration professional development.
