Southeast Center for Education in the Arts

SCEA piloted a distance learning course in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin. The goal was to explore how to incorporate Internet communication and live television feeds from the two classrooms into a dynamic media learning experience. The "Introduction to Discipline-Based Theatre Education" course paired future teachers studying in Austin with experienced teachers in Chattanooga. They communicated with each other through e-mail and engaged in a theme drama, Ares 12: Mission to Mars, which featured real time transmissions between Earth and Mars.
