SCEA’s 2011 Forum will feature participatory interaction over passive listening. Monologic presentations are out – collaborative explorations are in. Conversations will be the nucleus for learning, both creating and transmitting knowledge.
Working in small groups of five, participants will engage in team building exercises and a Voyage to Mars simulation at the Challenger Center where success is dependent on cooperation, communication, problem solving, and decision-making.
Each team will then select an aspect of learning environments that resonates with their interests. Team members will share leadership responsibility for facilitating each of the five phases of their learningscape design project: Preparation, Exploration, Strategizing, Documentation, and Reporting.
Field trips around Chattanooga will broaden recognition of the diversity of learningscapes and partnerships.
Drawing on their collective interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, each team will refine their learningscape design, making sure it embodies aesthetics and elegance. Forum participants will then assemble together to hear and discuss reports of each team's work.
