How can professional development adapt to innovations in
technology, art making, and teaching practice?
|
|
Educators today are challenged to rethink their practice and refine their teaching skills to deepen student understanding in a world that is rapidly changing. Teachers, students, and artists are confronted daily with the need to adapt, rework, or retool in order to stay current and relevant.
SCEA’s sixth annual Arts & Education Forum on May 15-17, 2013 at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will challenge educators, artists, and technologists to critically and creatively explore current and future practice in education, art making, and professional development. We will address issues related to this shifting environment including teaching and learning, artistry, and collaboration.
|
We need professional development providers, teachers, artists,
and technologists to help us create the content of the Forum.

FORUM STRANDS

|
Teaching and Learning
How are the tools we use as learners, artists, and teachers changing? What adaptations in professional development do they require and offer?
Artistry
Historically, artists in all disciplines have pushed the boundaries of traditional forms of art making. What does it mean to be an artist today? How should arts education and professional development respond to changing artistic practice?
Collaboration
Evolving technology offers us ways to communicate and collaborate across time and space that impact how we structure our work. How should we respond to these new opportunities and challenges?
|

Challenges
Present a current problem and actively engage a group of participants in situations and discussion for understanding and problem solving.
Demonstrations / Experiences
Showcase or model an application of techology, an artistic process, an instructional strategy, or a means of communication.
Roundtables
Lead a discussion with a small group in an informal environment. We welcome your proposal for a topic and also seek those willing to help facilitate the conversations.
