UPWARD BOUND MATH AND SCIENCE: PRISM ACADEMIC YEAR ACTIVITIES
Saturday
College
This year the Upward Bound Math and Science: PRISM program will meet on the first and third Saturday. The scheduled activities and classes are classes are designed to supplement high school work and prepare students for postsecondary education in the areas of math and science. In addition the students will focus on test preparation that include the ACT, and other college admission test, like the SAT.
Academic
and Career counseling
There will also be special seminars offered concerning career/ educational planning, preparation for college admission and personal improvements (e.g.; character education and goal development)
Tutorial
Services
Mandatory weekly tutorials will be arranged for students who make a 'C' or below in their courses during the academic year. the weekly tutorials are designed to assist students in the understanding of classroom assignments. UTC graduate and undergraduate students will conduct these sessions.
Mentoring
Participants will be paired with UTC students that are majoring in math and science fields. The mentors will serve as direct source of information on the benefits of postsecondary education. This component will help the participants strive towards educational goals that are attainable to them also.
Cultural
Enrichment
Cultural enrichment activities are designed to broaden, expose and provide opportunities to enhance each participant's learning experience. The activities include field trips: such as plays, college trips and concerts.
Stipends
Students will receive a $10.00 stipend for attendance and participation during the program activities. Stipends will be disbursed in December and in May. The program director and coordinator will distribute the stipend. If a student does not participate, complete assignments, and or comes late or leaves early from the program, money will be deducted from that student's stipend for that day.
Meal

Upward Bound Math and Science: PRISM program will provide breakfast for the students who participate in SATURDAY COLLEGE.
Parental
Involvement
The parents of Upward Bound Math and Science: PRISM students are expected to support the program by encouraging their child to participate in all activities, attend school regularly, study at home and seek enrollment in postsecondary educational program. Parents are also expected to attend meetings.
