Sheri Melton
Sheri Melton has over 20 years of teaching experience in both classroom and private settings. She received a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Music from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Sheri's love for working with young children began while teaching Suzuki piano for Cadek Conservatory; she is certified to teach Suzuki Books 1A, 1B and 2. She began the first Kindermusik program in Chattanooga at Cadek in 1988. In addition to teaching Kindermusik for Cadek, Sheri has taught music classes in many area preschools. She is currently working with the Siskin Children's Institute, through a partnership with Cadek, developing music classes to meet the needs of every child, regardless of ability. Sheri has been a frequent presenter of music workshops for the Chattanooga Association for the Education of Young Children as well as North Georgia Head Start.
Sheri has taught all levels of Kindermusik and has achieved Professional Board Certification from Kindermusik International. She has earned numerous hours in continuing education and professional development, having worked with many leading early childhood music and movement experts including Donna Brink Fox and John Feirerabend. Sheri has earned additional college credit in early childhood music through the University of Colorado and the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. Having completed Level One Certification in the Orff Schulwerk approach to movement and music education, Sheri is a member of the American Orff Schulwerk Association; she also maintains professional membership in the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.
As a performer, Sheri has been a church organist for over 25 years and is a member of the American Guild of Organists. While a student at UTC, Sheri was a graduate assistant in accompanying and continues to accompany both vocalists and instrumentalists in recitals, auditions, and competitions.
