Name of Activity:    “A Typical Day at Seaworld” one day visit

Time Frame:            Two weeks for the entire unit

Links with Other Subjects: Science, Math, Art, Language Arts ( journal kept daily)

Resources/Materials:
Internal: Computer ( internet ), books, library, crayons, pencil, journals
External: zoo employees, field trip to the zoo

Desired Outcomes/Competencies:
1. Students can list 10 careers involved in zoological or marine parks.
2. Students can relate business careers,human services careers, etc. with the management of a marine park.

Description of the Process:

  •  Explore the main website with the class. (www.seaworld.org).  Go to Career Info.  Go to Pursuing Careers in Mammal Science.  Go to What Types of Jobs involve marine mammals.  Go to end of page Click on What Types of Jobs again or How Can I Find Out About Jobs With Marine Animals and continue with any pertinent question/areas at end.
  •  Each student will select a career related to marine park for further study.
  •  Hands on activity involving word search and dot-to-dot. Example subject:  Whales.
  •  Finish with activities geared to unit on marine mammal careers
