Desired Outcomes/Competencies:
1. Students will write a grammatically correct opinion statement.  They will learn how a writer writes an opinion paper or editorial.

Description of the Process:

  •  Have students read editorials in the newspaper
  •  Brainstorm ideas as a class about school/current events
  •  Narrow ideas to 4-5
  •  Write a first draft directed to the principal or editor
  •  Edit with a partner
  •  Write a final draft
  •  Share with class
  •  Send to principal or editor
  •  Trip to newspaper office
