Leadership/Team Building

Narrative:  The Upper Norris Business Education Partnership is comprised of four counties: Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock and Union. A day-and-a-half mini-conference was planned and implemented for forty (40) key players in these four counties as a way to initiate the partnership. Each of these counties sent a team to the retreat site in Greeneville. Teams were composed of teachers, principals, business people and school administrators.

The agenda included a motivational speaker on "Leadership and Teambuilding," a presentation on Education Edge, and team break-outs on each of the components of the partnership's Education Edge project including recruitment, mentoring, advanced placement/dual enrollment, academic Olympics, SCANS and video production/video conferencing. In addition to building an esprit de corps, a significant outcome of the mini-conference was the development of goals and activities for the partnership's six primary School-to-Career components.

It Works!  Teacher "buy in" was a key result of the miniconference. All four school systems have an understanding of the goals and purpose of Education Edge. Relationships among all the key players were established and teams continue to plan and work together on a weekly basis.
