Teacher Temporary Service

Narrative:  "Teacher Temporary Service" is a creative connecting activity developed by the Fayetteville-Lincoln County School-to-Career System. Launched in the spring of 1997, this project benefits both teachers and businesses. Key partners include the Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln Regional Hospital.

Teachers who are interested in summer employment are given applications, which are then shared with employers interested in hiring temporary summer help. The School-to-Career office acts as the broker between the two. The benefits of this "connection" between teachers and business are many. Teachers gain an understanding of employer needs, which they can share with their students to better prepare them for the work force. Employers have an opportunity to provide input into the curriculum in the public schools. Additionally, teachers earn extra income and businesses have access to a qualified pool of temporary employees.

It Works!  Approximately twelve teachers participated in the pilot year of 1997; twice that many have indicated interest for the summer of 1998. Employers are very interested in the project.
