Narrative: The teacher think tank grew out of a retreat held by the Maury County Education/Community/Business Partnership in the summer of 1997. It was developed as a result of a Goal Team that developed strategies involving educators and administrators. A survey was administered, system-wide, to gather information on challenges teachers identified as important. Teachers from every school were invited to attend regular, after-school meetings to discuss these challenges. They prioritized the items that needed focused, long-term discussions to identify solutions. Recommendations were then forwarded to the Director of Schools.
It Works! The first year focus was on discipline. As a result of the discussions, the think tank submitted a proposal to the Director of Schools recommending strategies for countywide consideration. This effort is being continued as think tank members look at other leadership issues, which will enable them to continue to improve teaching and learning in Maury County.
