Narrative: The school-to-career website was designed and developed by the Nashville Chamber with a grant from the Landmark Foundation (WTVF-Channel 5) and hosted by CitySearch to assist students as they engage in career development activities. With sites that were designed specifically for local students and the Nashville area and links to other quality sites this research tool (http://nashville.citysearch.com/E/F/NASTN/000/15.77/1.html) is organized in the following way:
- Career Planning and Search: in this site students can use the Strategies and Skills link to complete interest surveys, SCANS skills, financial aid and scholarships. Exploring Specific Skills provides a wealth of links to career sites organized by career clusters. Colleges, Universities and Technical Schools has a listing and link to each post-secondary institution in Tennessee. The Job Market section provides national and local job market trends and projections.
- Teacher Resources: provides teachers with links to career sites, career activities correlated with the Metro Core Curriculum, and a special section identifying SCANS skills and presenting suggestions for integrating them into the curriculum.
- The Nashville Business Community: contains information about economic development in the greater Nashville area, list of area businesses, descriptions of businesses and professional organizations and other community-based organizations.
- Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools: links to Metro Schools, the schools' guidance programs and career academies.
It Works! The Metro Website has received over 22,000 hits since launched. Mouse pads and posters with the web address have been distributed to all counselors and libraries in Metro Nashville Schools. Teachers and counselors received website training and developed lesson plans using the site.
