Narrative: White County High School designed the Quick Guide to the Job Application Process to help students open the door to the world of work. Students were not as successful with securing jobs because they were not properly completing the application process. Employers asked for help to bridge this gap and high school students began learning about correct methods of completing their job applications during homeroom sessions.
One thousand and fifty students participated in Career Awareness Month. Understanding the job application process was included as part of these regularly scheduled meetings. Students received a Quick Guide pamphlet (included the Letter of Application, Resume, Job Application and Follow-up Letter; participated in class discussions; and explored interview techniques.
It Works! Students actively participated in this activity. Positive evaluations were received and student success in finding employment increased. The objectives were met in students filling out a job application correctly, writing a letter of application, developing a resume, writing a follow-up letter, learning interview techniques and increasing the number of students successfully attaining a job.
