Narrative: Crockett County High School identified a need to provide services to fifty Hispanic students attending middle and high school in the county. The social isolation of these students and need for career development led to the establishment of services that provided additional academic/tutoring services and a variety of activities that enhanced cultural awareness, life skills, assistance with postsecondary placement, financial aid and general advocacy. Services were coordinated by the ESL certified teacher at the school
It Works! This project has provided services to students that traditionally have had a difficult time in adjusting to school. By opening special programs to these students and their families many have an opportunity to explore possibilities never before opened to them. The school placed their first Hispanic student in a postsecondary institution in the fall of 2001. Additionally, high school students participating in the project have provided interpretation services to elementary, middle and high school parent/teacher conferences.
