Fairview Farm Tour

Narrative:  Fairview Farm Tour was developed by Vivian May as a way to educate first grade students in Humphreys County about agriculture and associated careers. Students are bused to the farm and visit 15 stations where they learn about products produced on a farm and how the production and sale of these products relate to the world of work. Ninety-five volunteers (both adult and 4-H students) staff the different stations. Students became aware of careers associated with soybean production (including the production of Crayons which are made from soybeans); corn and various feeds, dairy products and the industry; textiles, veterinarian medicine and equipment; fish farming; equipment maintenance; and conservation and forestry.

It Works!  The Fairview Farm Tour is in its second year in Humphreys County. Over two hundred first graders participate each year. Educators are able to take back to their classroom a world of information to use in their Education Edge curriculum. Students become aware of a multitude of careers from farming to the manufacture and sale of products produced on the farm. 4-H students have an opportunity to serve as role models and leaders for the younger children.
