Narrative: Employers in Education is a program where any individual in business or industry, who is approved by their respective company to participate, applies and commits to spend one full day shadowing an educator. Begun in the fall of 2000 over thirteen employers have visited five different schools (elementary, middle and high). The two goals of the program are to develop awareness by business and industry of the challenges facing educators and students, and to foster a stronger understanding and communication between business and industry and schools.
It Works! Students were able to interact with various members of their community during the school day. They learned about the kinds of expertise, skills and career. Business partners left with a better understanding of the challenges schools face today and are better able to advocate for the schools as a result of their experience.
