Narrative: The Effort Scholars program was established to recognize those students who are willing to put forth extra effort throughout their high school years. Each student must meet standards such as:
· maintaining 95% attendance;
In the 2000-2001 school year enrollment is:
· completing 48 total hours of community service;
· presenting a career oriented senior project;
· completing four math credits;
· maintaining a minimum grade point average of 85;
· being involved in a co-curricular group sponsored by the school;
· maintaining a portfolio;
· having at least one job shadowing experience; and,
· completing one vocational/technology course.
10th grade students- 87.All teachers and many community employers are involved in the Effort Scholars.
11th grade students- 57.
12th grade students- 41.
It Works! Students work hard to meet the requirements and employers are virtually assured of getting a quality employee. Hiring agencies recognize the extra effort students are making and give them hiring preferences. Some are even offering extra pay incentives to get these students.
