Narrative: To help orient students to local postsecondary education opportunities, two 9-week elective classes were added to the schedule, "Introduction to the Technology Center" and "Introduction to Dyersburg State Community College". Students were bused to the schools where they spent one week in a "classroom shadowing" experience. While attending the class, students were included in projects or assigned projects of their own to complete. Classes attended were Allied Health, robotics, drafting, electronics, industrial maintenance, computer technology, air conditioning and refrigeration, tool and die, and automotive technology.
It Works! Twenty-three students participate in each rotation. They are getting a much more in-depth understanding of postsecondary training and education options than typical senior visits to colleges. Joint enrollment and increased attendance by graduates from both institutions are attributed to this activity.
