Narrative: Hamilton County Schools recognized a need to be able to provide over 40,000 students with a comprehensive system of counseling in all 70 schools. Using the new state framework for counseling a task force of counselors met after school and developed the scope of services with the new framework. The scope of services included school-based, work-based and connecting activities. The task force was divided into elementary, middle and high school.
It Works! The task force completed their planning and implementation of the strategies began. The first task was information and communication sharing to all counselors across the system. Establishing career centers in every school was next. Over 65% of counselors have indicated strong benefits of the framework and the system of career centers across the county. All Education Edge activities are now tied to the system: career days, job shadowing, career assessment, career development and counseling. Students have access to more information than five years ago. Counselors also provide technical assistance for parent workshops related to the world of work.
