Narrative: The Community Appreciation and Recognition of Excellence in Education (C.A.R.E.) program is a revamping of the former Chamber's Business Encourages Students and Teachers (B.E.S.T.) initiative and encourages volunteers as well as educators to excel in nine crucial areas. These areas include: being a champion in public education, creativity in education, being a visionary, perseverance, Special Education award, Character Counts award, and giving back to the community after graduation. Each award of cash or recognition has a business partner whose name is associated with it and the business is the primary decision maker in evaluating the nominees. Awards are presented during an evening modeled after the Grammy's, with a live TV broadcast, a red carpet walk by all finalists with a receiving line of local dignitaries, and a special dinner presentation.
It Works! Formal feedback from educators, business representatives and sponsors was positive and indicated, "they had never been involved in such a positive event completely focused on education." The project demonstrates a renewed commitment by the business community to support the education community.
