The Master of Public Administration (MPA) at UTC is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA).  The program seeks to improve public and nonprofit management by preparing highly competent, skilled administrators to work in applied settings. To accomplish this goal, the MPA program provides students with a course of study intended to improve written and oral communication, to strengthen analytical and statistical skills, and to enhance the student's ability to ethically and effectively manage human, financial, and physical resources.

To complete the MPA program, all students must earn a minimum of 39 semester hours including 24 hours of core courses and 12 hours of elective coursework. In addition, pre-service students (those who have no prior significant experience in public or nonprofit agencies) are required to complete an internship. The internship is designed in consultation with the MPA Internship Director.

Students can select classes from a broad range of electives or participate in the nonprofit concentration instead. Students may choose their elective courses from those offered by the department or from a variety of courses offered by other graduate programs on campus. Elective courses are selected by the student in consultation with the MPA Coordinator to meet the student's academic and career objectives.
