This page applies to individuals who began either the M.Ed: SL/PL program or the certificate program prior to August 2009. SLLA (School Leadership Licensure Exam) Registration and Information here. This exam is required in Tennessee. PRAXIS (Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision, Test #10410) Registration and Information here. This exam is required in Georgia. What do I do to get my license? Mrs. Connie Cloud, UTC College of Education Certification Officer, will be the person with whom you work. You can contact her at connie-cloud@utc.edu. What do I have to do to keep my license? In Tennessee, once you become a principal (not assistant principal), you have 3 years to advance your "BAL" (Beginning Administrator's License) to a "PAL" (Professional Administrator's License). This process should be started at the beginning of the three years, NOT at the end. It requires that you set annual goals with your supervisor, that those goals are evaluated, and that I serve as a resource/support person to the process. Please contact me during your first year as a principal for more information. What do I need to do to RENEW my BAL? The BAL is issued for 5 years. If, during that time, you have not completed 3 successful years as a principal, you simply have to renew it. Click here for the State form. What do I need to do to UPGRADE my BAL to a PAL? The process of advancement requires that you have engaged in a 3 year professional development plan with your supervisor, and that you have successfully completed 3 years as a principal or supervisor. Assistant principals cannot upgrade to a PAL. The professional development plan should begin as soon as you begin your principalship. Click here for a sample "Verification of Eligibility Form". (It is important that you review this) Click here for an explanation and a form you can use. If you would like a copy of the form in WORD so you can key in the information, please email me (this copy is a PDF file). Once the three years are completed, and this form has been completed, send it to me. I will review it and then sign the State form and return it to you for your superintendent's signature. You also must earn a certain number of TASL (Tn Academy of School Leaders) credits each five years. Click here for more information. For information on keeping a Georgia license, click here. |
