Post Master's Certificate In School Leadership

The Post Master's Certificate Program in School Leadership is designed for a person who already has a master's degree in education but is interested in obtaining a license/certificate as a "Principal/Supervisor" in Tennessee. New state requirements by the State Board of Education have necessitated major revisions in all principal licensure programs in the state(s). UTC's revised program is currently in the approval process and, assuming full approval by the State Board of Education and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, we will be accepting a new cohort for fall (August) 2009. We have been advised to move forward with recruitment and the candidate application process and we are delighted that you are interested!

General information can be found in this flyer.

Application information is here, including forms for letters of recommendation and verification of teaching experience. All application materials are due no later than June 16. Please read this linked document carefully for details. Interviews will be scheduled in late June.

Answers to a few FAQs:

-The new program will require the same admission requirements as the M.Ed: School Leadership/Principal Licensure Concentration.

-Most students will be required to take 8 courses beyond the master's level, including a 450 hour field experience requirement. It will be possible to finish the program in 4 semesters (including one summer).

-Most courses will be offered as a 'hybrid', meeting face-to-face about once a month (usually Wednesdays, 5-9PM) and on-line. Due to the compacted time schedule for summer courses, they will meet more frequently but still be hybrid in design.
