"I learned how to find my way around with a GPS system."
"That it's a very fun group to be in and you really can learn a lot if you listen. I enjoyed the group and met a lot of new people who enjoyed some of the same things I did."
"I enjoyed the caves most. I have always been a fan of rocks and water, caves have plenty of both."
Dr. Jones The Earth Explorers After-School Club is led by Dr. Tracy Jones, Assistant Professor, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Department of Physics, Geology and Astronomy.
“The Earth Explorers is a wonderful club available to all junior high and high school students in the metro Chattanooga area, The club lets students explore different aspects of the earth and get their hands dirty in a safe, controlled environment. Parents are also welcome to attend with their children.
This club wants to show students that science can be fun and useful in their daily lives. The knowledge they gain here can help them make better and more informed decisions for the community as adults. Some of them may actually enjoy it so much that they will want to explore the earth sciences as a career option.”
A journey to explore the geosciences. The Earth Explorers started their journey last year at Tyner Academy. Meeting once a week, they explore different areas of Earth Science, sometimes using keystrokes on a computer and other times getting down and dirty crawling through caves. They have started on an adventure.
