Spring 2010 Term

Office Hours

Your instructors office hours will be 1:00-2:00 MTWF and 10:00-11:00 on Thursday, before and after classes in EMCS 410 or you can just go to your instructors office at any time hoping that he will be there. I teach computer labs from 10:50 till 12:40 and from 1:05 till 2:55 on Thursday in EMCS 206 and I can assist you with homework problems or any other questions whenever I am not assisting members of the lab class. On MWF I teach Math 161 from 8:00-8:50 in EMCS 422, Math 300 from 10:00-10:50 in EMCS 216, and Math 161 from 12:00-12:50 in EMCS 422.

Grading

Normal calculation of final grade: The four exams (the lowest will be dropped) are worth 300 points. The final exam is 150 points. After converting to percentage form, 100-90 A, 89-80 B, 79-70 C, 69-60 D, 59-0 F, with any adjusting of the grades done by your instructor after the final exams are graded.

Special calculation allowing some students with high grades to skip the final: If a student has taken all four exams and has scored no less than 70 percent on each exam, then under certain conditions this student might not have to take the final exam. If you are one of these students, then you must get an email from your instructor after the fourth exam is graded. To get an automatic A without taking the final, you must have 360 total points from the four exams. To get an automatic B without taking the final, you must have 320 total points from the four exams. If you take the final with a B average it is possible that you might change your grade either up or down or not at all. Note that if your instructor does not email you then you must take the final.

Exam Schedule

We might have to change these dates, but your instructor will try very hard to have the exams on exactly these days.

Grading Scale:

Grading for the semester will be according to the following scale:

100% > A > 90% > B > 80% > C > 70% > D > 60% > F

Any curving of grades will be determined after the final exam is graded.
