Introduction to Psychology (PSY 101 - Faculty Manager for sections taught by graduate students (Fall 2006 - Spring 2011) STUDENTS' EVALUATIONS OF TEACHING PERFORMANCE: At UTC, regardless of how many times a Professor teaches a course in a given calendar year, only one section of that Professor’s course is evaluated each calendar year. UTC students anonymously evaluate their professors using a Likert-based scale ranging from 1 (negative) to 6 (positive). The UTC Office of Planning, Evaluation and Institutional Research processes students' evaluations and communicates students' median results to Professors. I computed average median ratings of my students’ evaluations of my teaching performance from 2005 through 2010. Of the 500+ students invited to evaluate my teaching, only 353 respondents completed evaluations. Their answers are referenced below. (Please note that only the responses of students enrolled in class sections with enrollments larger than 4 were included in this summary.) 1. When asked to respond to the statement, “The instructor of this class is an effective teacher.”, students’ average median response was 5.648148148. 2. When asked to respond to the statement, “My instructor presents the subject matter clearly.”, students’ average median response was 5.518518519. 3. When asked to respond to the statement, “My instructor is well-prepared for class.”, students’ average median response was 5.87037037. 4. When asked to respond to the statement, “My instructor is willing to help students.”, students’ average median response was 5.759259259. 5. When asked to respond to the statement, “My instructor grades fairly”, students’ average median response was 5.296296296. 6. When asked to respond to the statement, “My instructor encourages critical and independent thinking”, students' average median response was 5.25.
