Curriculum Vitae
J. Kevin Ford (B.S. Choral and Instrumental Music Education – University
of Tennessee Chattanooga, M.M.E. and Ph.D. Choral Conducting and
Music Education – Florida State University) is the U.C. Foundation
Associate Professor and Director of Choral Activities at The University
of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he conducts the Chamber Singers,
Chattanooga Singers and Master Chorale and teaches undergraduate
and graduate conducting and choral methods. University choruses
under his direction have performed at state conferences of the
Tennessee Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors
Association and have regularly toured domestically and internationally.
While at FSU he studied conducting with Rodney Eichenberger serving
as his assistant conductor for two years. He also studied conducting
with Dr. André Thomas and wind band conducting with Dr.
James Croft and continued his conducting training through workshops
with Robert Shaw, Roger Wagner, Dale Warland, Frederic Fennel,
and Arnold Gabriel.
Dr. Ford taught High School Chorus, Band and Middle School Band
in Rossville, Georgia where his performance groups consistently
made superior ratings at festivals. He served as teacher of conducting
and choral music education at the Crane School of Music at The
State University of New York College at Potsdam where he founded
the Potsdam Community Chorus and formed and directed the chorus
for the opening ceremony of the 2000 Goodwill Games in Lake Placid,
NY. Prior to his appointment at UTC, he served on the faculty
of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte as Director
of Choral
Activities and Coordinator of Vocal Music Education.
His professional memberships include the American Choral Directors
Association in which he was recently elected President of the
Tennessee state chapter, the National Association for Music Education,
the
Tennessee Music Educators Association, East Tennessee Vocal Association
where he serves as College Representative, College Music Society,
National Collegiate Choral Organization and the International
Federation for Choral Music. He has published choral arrangements
and editions
with Colla Voce and Moon of Hope publishing companies and has
authored articles in the ACDA Choral Journal and the International
Journal
of Research in Choral Singing. He has served as guest conductor
and adjudicator throughout the eastern U.S. and internationally
in Montreal, Canada and Vienna, Austria where he recently guest
conducted the choir from the University of Vienna. An enthusiastic
supporter of current composers, he has conducted world premiers
of works by Americans Dave Brubeck, Harry Bulow, Jonathan Bailey
Holland and the U. S. premier of the Requiem by the Swedish composer
Steve Dobrogosz with the combined choral forces of UTC and the
UTC Symphony Orchestra.
