Teaching Experience:

Have taught most beginning level mathematics courses. Post Calculus Courses taught include: Differential Equations I and II, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Writing, Advanced Calculus I and II, Applied Mathematics I and II, Elementary Topology, Linear Programming I, Matrices and Linear Algebra, Mathematical Statistics I and II, Multivariable Calculus, Numerical Analysis I and II, Introduction to Partial Differential Equations, Secondary School Mathematics from an Advanced Viewpoint. Individual Studies Courses taught: Financial Mathematics, Actuarial Mathematics, Dynamic Equations on Time Scales. Honors Project Directed: Oscillation of Solutions of Dynamic Equations on Time Scales: the Sturm-Picone Comparison Theorem. Graduate Courses taught include: Advanced Numerical Analysis, Calculus of Variations, Integral Equations, Numerical Solution of Ordinary Differential Equations I, Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations, Ordinary Differential Equations I and II, Selected Topics in Ordinary Differential Equations, Stability Theory of Differential Equations, Topics in Control Theory. Served as minor professor for M.S. degree students in aerospace engineering, agricultural engineering, computational engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, and physics; served as minor professor for Ph.D. students in aerospace engineering, civil engineering, computational engineering, education, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering.

Research Interests:

General area of research is ordinary and functional differential equations, difference equations, impulsive systems, differential inclusions, dynamic equations on time scales, and their applications. Special interests include: nonlinear oscillations (stability, oscillation, nonoscillation, and other asymptotic properties of solutions of nonlinear equations); boundary value problems; control theory; dynamical systems; mathematical modeling; applications to biological systems; numerical analysis; numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations.

Served on a number of Department, College, and University committees including as Chair of the University Committee on Courses and Curricula (1995-99), Chair of the University Core Curriculum Committee (1994-99), and Director of the University Supplemental Instruction Program (1995-98). Served on the University of Tennessee/Tennessee Board of Regents' Mathematics Review Committee (2000-01, 2005) to review and approve new high school Mathematics courses to be designated as college prepatory. Appointed a member of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission's Improving Teacher Quality Advisory Selection Committee (2005-present), and the Tennessee State P-16 Council on Mathematics Curriculum Alignment (2006-08). Invited to give Colloquium Lectures at various universities in the U.S. and abroad. Served as a member of organizing committees for several international conferences; invited to organize special sessions of papers at national and international meetings. Hosted a number of mathematicians from China, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Russia, Slovakia, and Yugoslavia who visited MSU for the purpose of collaborating on joint research. Negotiated a Letter of Agreement between Attila Jozsef University (Szeged, Hungary) and Mississippi State University to cooperate in areas of research and education. Also arranged a Letter of Agreement establishing cooperation between Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic), the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and Mississippi State University in the areas of research and education. Hosted mathematicians from Belarus, China, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Scotland, and Turkey who visited UTC to cooperate in areas of research and education.
