APRIL TRUMPET STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Nick Wysong is currently in his fourth year at UTC and is a music education major. He is the recipient of the Stanton Palmer Trumpet Scholarship and the UTC Assistant Principal Trumpet Scholarship. He plays lead trumpet in jazz band and is also in wind ensemble, concert band, orchestra, trumpet ensemble, brass quintet, marching band, and pep band. Recently he performed Arban’s Carnival of Venice on a music student recital. Nick first heard this piece in 8th grade through a recording by Wynton Marsalis. He instantly fell in love with it because of its technical challenges, and the recording inspired him to become more serious about the trumpet. He was amazed that the trumpet could do that. Nick plans on going to graduate school for trumpet performance.
