Origami Hexahedron

 

 

Begin with a square sheet of paper

Fold one vertical crease at center (halves); color on outside

Fold two vertical creases to center (fourths)

Open

Fold dog ears at upper left and lower right of white side

Turn over to colored side

Fold dog ears at upper left (triangles to vertical line at 1/4) and lower right of colored side

Turn over to white side

Fold sides to center (open collar at upper right and lower left)

Make a horizontal crease at center

Open

Fold upper right corner to mid-point of left side

Fold lower left corner to mid-point of right side

Open

Tuck upper right under left

Tuck lower left under right

Turn parallelogram to smooth side

Fold acute vertices to opposite endpoint on midline (forms a square)

Fold along tucked midline

Open to see four triangles

Three strips are needed

Work with tucked sides up

Place one strip vertically

Place and tuck one strip horizontally at middle

Place and tuck one strip vertically at center

Push up into pyramid

Hold together as three-sided pyramid

Tuck loose ends to form hexahedron

Use six strips to make a cube.

Use 12 strips to make a stellated octahedron.

 

Assemble three pods. Hold upside down. Place the fourth pod on top. Insert tabs.
