Certainly a Chattanooga education is not always by the book. Through a series of community partnerships, UTC offers a variety of experiential learning opportunities: clinicals, internships, cooperative education placement. And students agree that such on-the-job training forms an important component of their overall educational experience.

Get paid to learn
Cooperative Education allows you to combine classroom studies with paid, career-related work experience. Co-op experiences are available to students in all majors. Our professional staff helps students build resumes, improve interviewing skills, and identify placement opportunities. UTC students have co-oped with IBM, Saturn Corporation, NASA, AT&T, Disney, TVA, the Central Intelligence Agency, Duracell International, and others.
Developing Global Leaders
Globalism is a given in today’s economy, so we’re focused on the international scene. Our International Studies Abroad Program provides opportunities for UTC students to study around the globe as well as invites foreign students to our campus. Our academic departments are also looking at their curriculums to infuse a global perspective. For example, our College of Business offers students an opportunity to participate in virtual global team projects, working with students from around the world and communicating electronically.
The main payoff for students participating in the international virtual team experience is the development of “real world” skills which will be essential to success in the new global economy—and skills which students are not likely to get somewhere else.
High Tech Learning
Through our Student Technology Fund, the campus spends more than $1.5 million annually to ensure student access to the latest technology. More than 875 personal computers are available for student use on campus and our Lupton Library implemented a new online system this year that gives students faster access to more research databases. Our Teaching Resource Center works with faculty members to incorporate the latest technology into their courses, and all of our classrooms are connected to the campus network.
Digital Developments
Working with the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County governments, UTC has recruited an internationally recognized team of scholars to establish the UT SimCenter at Chattanooga. Offering master’s and doctoral level coursework in computational engineering, the SimCenter is helping make Chattanooga an important location on the digital superhighway and is raising the level of technological advances across the campus.
