Frequently Asked Questions

  1. faqsHow do I apply for housing?
Click HERE for direct link to application page. This page will then take you to our interactive application website. This allows you, the student, to have maximum control over your housing than we have ever been able to provide before. [ Top ]

  2. As a freshman do I have to live on campus and why should I live on campus?
Yes, freshmen are required to live on campus. Living on campus is a great way to meet your peers and make friends, and allows you access to all the university facilities. It also gives you extra sleep in time!! More importantly research indicates that students who live on campus perform better academically than those who live at home or off campus.  Students who live on campus also tend to stay in school at higher rates than those that do not live on campus.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           For students that live within a 45 mile radius, are married or have children may be exempted by completing an online form at www.utc.edu/housing. 3. If I live on campus am I required to have a meal plan?

Yes. All students that live on campus are required to have a meal plan. The minimum requirement for students is a $525 declining balance membership. Any student may upgrade to a 7, 10, 14 or 19 meal per week plan. Please see Dining Services for details. [ Top ]

  4. How do I get a room?
For North Campus, complete the online application including the payment of the $25 Housing Application Fee. Then between March 1st and the August Move-in, we make assignments on 9 different occasions. Once an assignment is made, you will be e-mailed at your UTC e-mail address and you will have 10 calendar days to pay a $225 reservation fee. Please see our website www.utc.edu/housing for the Auto Assignment Schedule.  For South Campus, a $25 Application Fee and $125 Reservation Fee will allow you an opportunity to choose your room online[ Top ]

  5. Does this mean I get to pick my room and roommates?
Yes and no. It depends on what rooms are available at the time you reserve your room. Students who apply at a later date may find the more popular choices already gone. There is a feature available to assist in roommate pairing, where you may request specific roommates (they must request you also) or answer questions to help match roommates. When assignments are done you may view your room and roommates at the http://rmsweb.utc.edu/ website then log in and select the "Assignments", then "Roommates" folder.[ Top ]

  6. How many choices do I have on leasing terms?

  9. Is UTC Place part of Campus Housing?
Yes, UTC Place is part of Campus Housing. However, UTC Place is owned and operated by a 3rd party partner of UTC. There are different policies and lease terms that apply to residents of UTC Place. For example, Resident of UTC Place should pay their fees directly to UTC Place as they will not show up on your UTC Mocs Express Statement.  Please be sure to read your contract thoroughly as it is binding even if your status as a UTC student changes.[ Top ]

  10. What is a Resident Assistant and can I apply to be one?
Resident Assistants are students, just like you, who are employed by the Housing office to provide assistance to all residents. RAs are upperclassmen that have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, and go through a rigorous training to provide you with the best possible service. RAs are available 24 hours a day to help you with a variety of things including roommate conflicts. Your freshman year is a good time to get to know the RAs, to visit your complex office and to meet your Resident Director. It is never too early to think about putting in your own application to be an RA. Click HERE to learn more. [ Top ]

  11. Can I bring my car to campus? Where can I park?
Everyone is allowed to bring their own car and to purchase parking passes to any of the available lots on campus. Contact Parking Services at (423) 425-4051 or www.utc.edu/Administration/Parking for more information. [ Top ]

  12. What stuff is NOT allowed on campus?
Weapons, drugs, alcohol, halogen lamps, candles, gas or charcoal grills, incense, and pets are not allowed. The best rule of thumb is, if you are not sure it is allowed, either do not bring it or call us beforehand. Please do not use 2 sided sticky tapes for personalizing of your room. At UTC Place, you may use small nails and in Boling, Village and Lockmiller you may “tough tac.”.[ Top ]

  13. What stuff should I bring?
All complexes are fully furnished. You will need to bring bedding (extra long twin for Village, Lockmiller, and Boling and standard size for UTC Place), dishes, towels, cleaning supplies, electronic equipment (televisions are not provided), and a sturdy laundry basket. If this is your first time away from home, less is better! It is easier to purchase those items you find you need after arriving than it is to return unnecessary purchases. That also gives you a chance to see what your roommates have brought. You may also bring a cubed size refrigerator with the 1 X 1/2 size for your desire if needed.[ Top ]

  14. Excellent! I can't wait! When can I check in?
Freshmen can check in starting at 8 a.m. on August 13th and Upperclassmen at 8 a.m. on August 15th. Students that are participating in an organization that requires early arrival, such as Football or Band, please contact the appropriate person from that office for details regarding move in. For those who are attending the last freshmen orientation in August you may check in at that time. [ Top ]
