The UTC Writing Center is a free resource for all UTC student writers—whether first-year or graduate students. Our aim is to provide a site that fosters a writing community:
- to give writers a comfortable place in which to write·
- to provide writers’ resources: style guides, dictionaries, computers for research/ word processing·
- to provide 1-on-1 or group writing consultations·
- to offer instructors feedback on writing assignment design and on facilitating successful peer review
Because our mission is to help students become better writers, rather than simply “fixing” individual texts, we work to make consultation sessions as interactive as possible. No papers are dropped off for editing or proofreading. Instead, writers read their texts aloud while consultants listen and follow up with questions for clarification and feedback on focus, thesis, organization, etc. Consultants will respond to writing from any discipline, as well as help with resumes, cover letters, graduate school applications, and personal/creative writing.
